Water Analysis

Advanced Water Analysis

GeoMark has broadened its fluid analysis capabilities to include comprehensive water testing services. These enhancements provide critical insight into subsurface water chemistry, supporting reservoir characterization, production allocation, water movement tracking, and the evaluation of brine resources for critical metal potential. Whether you’re assessing formation connectivity, tracking injection efficiency, or evaluating commercial opportunities in produced water, our analytical workflows bring new clarity to your subsurface fluids.

Key Offerings

Cation/Anion Analysis

Quantifies major dissolved ions (e.g., Na⁺, K⁺, Ca²⁺, Mg²⁺, Cl⁻, SO₄²⁻, HCO₃⁻) to help characterize formation water chemistry, identify mixing between fluids, and support reservoir connectivity studies. separately, indicating a unique Montney-derived oil family.

Alkalinity and Conductivity

Measures the buffering capacity and electrical conductivity of the water, providing quick indicators of fluid salinity and reactivity—useful for water compatibility assessments and scaling risk.

Specific Gravity

Assesses the density of water relative to pure water, useful for identifying variations in fluid composition and supporting volumetric flow assessments.

Total Dissolved Solids (TDS)

Determines the total concentration of dissolved substances in the water, commonly used to differentiate formation waters, flag fluid contamination, and evaluate brine quality for resource extraction.

Stable Isotopes (δ¹⁸O and δ²H)

Provides insight into the origin, evolution, and movement of water in the subsurface. Useful for tracing injected versus formation water, and supporting hydrogeological and basin modeling studies.

Metal Analysis

Using GeoMark’s newly acquired Agilent 8900 ICP-QQQ-MS, we deliver high-sensitivity quantification of trace and major metals in water samples. This includes elements like lithium, boron, strontium, iron, and manganese—critical for assessing the economic potential of brines, identifying corrosion risks, and informing environmental monitoring. The ICP-QQQ-MS system enables ultra-low detection limits and interference-free analysis, making it ideal for high-confidence critical metal exploration and produced water characterization.

Integrated Fluid System Analysis - All in One Place

GeoMark’s expertise in oil and gas characterization is now seamlessly extended to include advanced water analysis—giving operators a complete view of their subsurface fluid systems from a single trusted source. By combining high-resolution geochemical data across oil, gas, and water. GeoMark delivers a holistic understanding of fluid origins, interactions, and movements within the reservoir.

Integrated Fluid System Analysis - All in One Place

Production Allocation

Better define drainage volumes and well-to-well communication by accounting for all produced fluids.

Reservoir Connectivity

Identify fluid mixing, vertical or lateral compartmentalization, and injected vs. formation water pathways.

Enhanced Recovery Monitoring

Track sweep efficiency, breakthrough events, and chemical tracer responses.
