Sampling & Shipping Instructions

Oil Sampling Instructions:

  • Glass Vials (20 ml capacity)

  • White Vial Caps

  • Teflon Tape

  • Chain of Custody (CoC)/Inventory 

  • Vial Labels 

  • Black Sharpie

Preferred Sampling Point: Separator

  • Flush the sample valve/line with oil before sampling (to ensure a clean & uncontaminated sample is collected)

  • Fill the 20ml glass vial up to the neck of the vial (leave a small amount of headspace at the top)

  • Take duplicate samples (incase one breaks during shipping)

  • 2 vials per well​

  • Tightly secure the white cap on the vial and then wrap the cap (clockwise) with Teflon tape

  • DO NOT wrap the vial threads with Teflon tape (this could cause the sample to leak during shipment)​

  • Label every vial with the following information:

    • Well name/API #​

    • Sampling date

    • Operator/company

Chain of Custody (CoC) 

  • Complete the CoC sheet with the following information:

  • well name

  • Depth (if applicable)

  • API #/UWI #

  • Sampling date

Return vials to the provided padded shipping container and ship via UPS GROUND to:

Cuttings Sampling Instructions:

  • After collecting cuttings from the shaker, lightly rinse with water (for WBM systems) or diesel (for OBM systems)

  • Open the jar and fill to the FILL LINE

  • Make sure to capture enough rock pieces (and minimal fluid)

  • Cuttings should be damp/wet but not saturated with excess fluid

  • Label every jar with the following information:

  • Well name​

  • Sample depth

  • API #/ UWI #

  • Sampling date

  • Well name

  • Sampling date

Water Sampling Instructions:

Water Kit Contents:

  • 250 ml Container with Nitric Acid (small)

  • 500 ml Container (large)

  • Teflon Tape

  • Chain of Custody (CoC)/Inventory 

  • Black Sharpie

Preferred Sampling Point: Separator

  • Flush the sample valve and line with water before sampling

  • DO NOT dump out or flush out Nitric Acid from 250 ml container

  • Fill BOTH containers to 95% capacity (leave a small amount of headspace

  • Each well should have water in TWO containers; one large and one small

  • Tightly secure the white caps on the 500 ml (large) AND 250 ml (small) containers; secure both with Teflon tape

  • Label every container with the following information:

  • Well name​

  • Sampling date and time

  • Operator/company​

  • Samples should be kept in an air-conditioned environment OR chilled cooler AND out of the sun

  • Well name

  • Depth/reservoir unit

  • Sampling date
