Oil Geochemistry for the Geoscientist

GeoMark Research offers a two-day course that provides the basis for integrating oil geochemical data in an exploration program. By incorporating a heavily data-driven curriculum participants in the course learn how to use oil data to accomplish the following.

  • Identify oils derived from different sources;
  • Determine the geographic and stratigraphic extent of petroleum systems;
  • Predict the depositional environments and ages of oils' source rocks;
  • Accomplish oil-source correlations;
  • Estimate thermal history of oils and inferring their sources;
  • Determine geochemical controls on crude oil quality; and Identify "vagrant" oils that may represent under-explored petroleum systems.
The course uses GeoMark's OILS™ Database to illustrate the effectiveness of using oil data to identify and evaluate petroleum systems. Numerous field examples are used to further demonstrate the applicability of oil data to resolving many exploration questions.

This course is taught periodically throughout the year in open registration venues, or may be scheduled any time as an in-house program.
